THE 1 BEST ISLANDS IN THAILAND

"KOH PHI PHI"

Best Thai island for:
Solo and single travellers

Koh Phi Phi consists of two islands situated about 40km from Krabi; Phi Phi Lei and Phi Phi Don. Phi Phi Don is arguably one of the most popular tourist destinations along the Andaman Coast, especially during the peak months from December to March, when many tourists visit. Even so, the island retains much of its original beauty

The islands of Thailand are the stuff of castaway fantasies. White sand, rustic-chic beach shacks, a hammock gently swaying between two palm trees as a turquoise sea laps at the shore… But each is quite distinct from the next, with its own characteristics; and there are dozens to choose from - so which is the right one for you? Here,Nell McShane Wulfhart selects one for every occasion, whether you want to party til dawn, learn to dive, eat the best Thai food or escape from the world on a secluded, romantic break

If you're going on holiday on your own or with single friends then Koh Phi Phi might just be the island for you. In recent years it has been almost entirely rebuilt after the tsunami devastated it, with smarter places to stay than ever. With a reputation for good times and lots of activities on offer(diving, snorkelling,cliff-jumping,boat trips to Koh Phi Phi Ley (pictured),among other islets, where The Beach was filmed), Koh Phi Phi draws a young, stylish, energetic crowd with a degree of sophistication, ready to relax or to party (though not the hardcore ravers of Pha Ngan).

Days are spent sunning

Viking Cave is one of the most notable sites on Koh Phi Phi Leh. Located at the bottom of a tall limestone cliff on the northeastern side of the island, it takes roughly 30 minutes to get there by long-tail boat from Tonsai Bay (the main pier in Phi Phi Islands). Known as Tham Phaya Nak in Thai, Viking Cave owes its name to the paintings found on the eastern southern walls of the cave: they represent various types of boats, including what resembles a Scandinavian drakkar. These paintings are certainly quite recent, and were possibly realised by sailors taking shelter in the cave during a storm.

Swimming or  exploring

Driving in Phi Phi is one of the prime activities in Phi Phi and the island counts a large number of serious and professional PADI dive centers dispensing courses – from Discover Scuba Diving to Dive master – and day trips to the many world-class dive sites available in and around Phi Phi waters. Amongst the most notable dive sites of the area, Shark Point, Anemone Reef and the King Cruiser Wreck are located to the west between Phi Phi Islands and Phuket; Maya Bay, Koh Bida Nok & Nai are located on and near Koh Phi Phi Leh; all of them can be reached in less than 40 minutes from Koh Phi Phi Don, and offer superb underwater fauna and flora

Evenings are spent shopping and hanging out at beach bars,

Watching Thai dancers juggle with fire and dancing until the small hours with new friends.

Apache Beach Bar
Apache Beach Bar is the second largest open-air disco-like venue on Loh Dalum beach. Pretty quiet at the end of afternoon it starts to get frantic and crowded after 21:00 with young folks looking for party until late. A wooden stage surrounded by plastic chairs is set on the beach offering fire dancers to perform their show for the audience.

You might arrive on your own, but there's a good chance you won't leave that way.
